Wildlife Coast Cruises · San Remo Jetty, 170 Marine Parade

An hour under the cliffs

A 1-hour morning cruise from San Remo Jetty, under the Phillip Island bridge and along the granite cliffs and caves of Cape Woolamai. Pick it for the island's wild coast from the water in an hour, back in time for the pelican feeding at midday.

Cape Woolamai Scenic Cruise

About this experience

The cruise leaves San Remo Jetty, 170 Marine Parade, in the morning, passes under the bridge to Phillip Island and heads for Cape Woolamai. Along the way the crew gives commentary in English on the wildlife and the coast: granite cliffs and caves above clear water, with cormorants and gannets often about, per the listing. The standard group is up to 80 people.

Time there: 1 hour on the water. The listing names seabirds, and guests report more in season: dolphins, seals on the rocks and whales in the winter months. Whales pass Gippsland from May to November, per Visit Gippsland, so treat one as a bonus. Tea, coffee and cake are served on board.

You are back at San Remo around midday, in time for the pelican feeding that Destination Phillip Island lists daily at midday on the San Remo foreshore. Transport to San Remo is not included. For safety, the front deck is only for people over 1 metre tall, and the listing says the cruise is not suitable for wheelchair users.

Absolutely fantastic...my 2nd time. This time we had dolphins chasing and entertaining everyone [...] and then the delight of seeing a whale rise up out of the ocean, twice!

Tips before you book

  • Make a day of it on Phillip Island: this cruise in the morning, the pelicans at midday, the seal cruise in the afternoon, then the Penguin Parade at sunset.
  • Arrive early and allow time to find the jetty on Marine Parade before boarding.
  • Bring a jacket. An hour on open water feels cooler than the jetty.
  • Travelling with small children? The front deck is for people over 1 metre tall, so plan to watch from the main deck.
